When the air is cooler turf lawns begin to grow a little slower it may seem like the lawn care is over and winding down for the season. It’s not! Now is the time to get your final fertilization done before it’s too late!  Under Maryland’s Lawn Fertilizer Law fertilizer is prohibited between November 15 and March 1.  American Landscaping Inc. is ready to help and can handle your final fall fertilization for you.

We’ve put together a short checklist you should complete this fall to prepare your lawn for the winter for a better lawn next spring. Act fast you only have a short window to get it done.

  1. Aeration is a process that should be done now. American Landscaping experts will use an aerator machine to remove plugs of soil from your lawn which allows for air and water to get into the soil. This allows for better drainage and root development. It’s a good rule of thumb to aerate every fall for best results.
  2. Thatch control should be addressed. Fall is the time to removed heavy amounts of thatch build up in your yard. Get the thatch thinned out which can choke your turf. Our experts can help you determine if you have heavy thatch build up and how to address it for next year’s spring growing season.
  3. Fertilize your lawn now for the last time before it’s too late. Fall is a great time to fertilize your lawn which allows for the grass roots to grow and store nutrients for the winter months and which in turn will allow your lawn to flourish in the spring.
  4. Reminder… get those leaves off the grass. Don’t allow the leaves to stay on the lawn very long. Accumulation of leaves block air, sunshine and rain from reaching the grass and can kill the grass if left for the long winter.

Following the points above now will ensure that grass in your landscape will be off to a good start next year. Contact American Landscaping Inc. today and we can inspect your lawn and provide a fall maintenance plan that is right for your landscape situation. Each yard, commercial landscape or property are different and the right plan in the fall can lead to a great green lawn in the spring and summer.
